Come Celebrate with us from 3 to 6pm. We will have music (featuring Sax Player Marion Salaam & Drummer Tony 'Stickman' Wyatt), and BBQ from Chester's Italian Brothers Catering. Meal tickets will be $7 - for this you will get a BBQ sandwich, choice of sides and a drink.

The André Café Acoustique is located on the NE Corner of 5th & Edgmont in Chester, PA. Diagonally across from the Chester Post Office (GPS: 39.84773 -75.36101). Directions and a map can be found at www.andre-cafe.com

Pieces of Peace is a project of the Community Arts Center in Wallingford, PA in partnership with the MLK Commemorative Committee of Chester, Widener University, Swarthmore College, the Chester YWCA, the United Way and other partners.

The project builds on the success of the King Project, for which was created a mural honoring Martin Luther King at Calvary Baptist Church in 2009 with the same partners. The goals of the project are to honor the local legacy of Dr. King's non-violence platform and to create icons of peace throughout the city.

The project kicked off on Martin Luther King Day 2011. In June of 2011 we installed the first quilt-themed mural at the YWCA. The quilt imagery is a metaphor for individuals contributing their piece to the overall peace of a community. At MLK Day 2012 we painted 35 quilt squares with peace and non-violence quotes. They are to be installed at multiple locations in Chester and the surrounding community. At The Andre Café Acoustique, we will install a collage mural on the outside of the entire first floor façade.

Paul Downie is an artist, musician, educator and administrator. He has worked extensively as a muralist, painting over 30 murals in Philadelphia and Chester since 2005. He has shown in a number of galleries in the Philadelphia area including Projects Gallery and the Duke Gallery. His studio work is visionary in nature, with a focus on sacred geometry and the depiction of energy. He is currently the Program Director at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford, PA and teaches at Delaware County Community College. Downie has an MEd from Tyler School of Art.
