Actor & Director Bill Duke to speak at “Dark Girls” Movie Premiere at Widener University


Known for his height, Duke is a familiar face from the 1976 film, Car Wash and standing alongside Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard, among other things. He recently appeared in X-Men. He has also directed a number of films including A Rage in Harlem and Sister Act II. More recently, Duke has been working on documentaries, including Dark Girls.

Dark Girls is a story that focuses on how women of a “darker hue” perceive themselves, as well as how the public perceives them and the emotional toll it has.

The screening and Q&A will be held on Tuesday, February 21 at 4 p.m. in Alumni Auditorium, located off of 14th Street between Walnut Street and Melrose Avenue in Chester, Pa.

The event is free for all Widener students and faculty. There will be at $10 fee for non-Widener students. The funds collected will benefit Duke Media Inc’s educational foundation. For more information, contact Widener University’s Black Student Union at 610-499-4488 or bsu@mail.widener.edu.
