Update on the MAOYR”S CUP YOU READ… I READ Game

First I would like to thank the kids from Philadelphia and the GREAT CITY of Chester who came to play for this cause. We collected over 750 books to donate to local day care facilities and the Chester Crozer Library. Philadelphia won by 1 point 91-90. The highlight of the day goes to John Davis and Erikk Wright. John Davis (6’4”) of Team Philly had a monster jam over 6’6” Rich Grandberry of Team Butler. Erikk Wight 6’3” had his own block party having 3 straight blocks all in one possession, with the last one coming against 6’7” Jeremiah Worthem. Jaquan Newton Team Philly led all scorers with 22 points earning game MVP honors. Erikk Wright had led Team Butler with 18 points.

Thank you to the players, the volunteers, Jhalil Beats, Chester Upland School District, Mike Hurst, Yesgod Tv, Mayor Butler, Councilwoman Marrea Walker Smith, Councilman Shepard Garner, Larry Yarbray, Café Ent. The students of Chester Upland School District and The City of Chester Department of Recreation.

The reason for the event

85 % of all juveniles who interface with the juvenile court system are functionally illiterate
2/3 of students who cannot read proficiently by the end of the 4th grade will end up in jail or on welfare. The 4th grade is the watershed year.
90% of welfare recipients are high school dropouts.

Thank You,
