Youth Court Day

CHS Library where Students held workshops

All three High Schools in the Chester Upland School District met for Youth Court Day. This was the first time the Youth Court students got together from Chester High, Smedley Allied Health, and Science and Discovery. Youth Court Coordinator Sofia Saiyed said it was a culminating activity with all the high schools to discuss and share what they have been doing this school year in Youth Court. 

Students had a daylong event. The Teacher’s Action Group presented a workshop on Practicing Restorative Justice in Schools. Students participated in River Rocks break-out brainstorming session to discuss challenges youth court face and how to address them creatively. The Philadelphia Student Union gave a workshop on Non-violence. Student heard from guest speakers from the legal profession.  Students ended their day with a Youth Court Mock Trial Competition to give them an opportunity to practice the skills and ideas learned throughout the day.
